What's Up in the Village

Mon, Aug/21/2017

After many months of practicing challenging routines in the water as well as on land, the Aquadettes are ready for their 2017 Aqua Follies Water Show!

The Laguna Woods Aquadettes have been wowing audiences for more than fifty years with their unique synchronized swimming routines. Any Aquadette will tell you they love the water, the music, and the sparkly costumes.

Synchronized swimming is a combination of swimming, dance and gymnastics.  As Margaret Marflitt, a 19 year member says, “it’s sure a lot more fun than swimming laps”.

Their annual show is their challenge (both physically and mentally), but the real intention of the Aquadettes is to foster camaraderie, laughter and life-long friendships.  It also keeps the body, mind and memory strong.

A favorite saying of the Aquadettes is, “don’t expect us to look like the Olympic Synchronized Swimmers--we are 20 pounds heavier, 40 miles an hour slower and 60 years older”.

Jerry Langford returns as emcee. DJ Adelaide White and a special guest violinist, Michael Fleming, will provide the music, including songs from "The Sound of Music" and "La La Land."

The 2017 Aqua Follies takes place at Pool 1, August 24 through 26, 2017. Gates open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7, available at  Clubhouse 1, 2, 5 or 7, the Recreation and Special Events Department Office, or go online at www.Aquadettes.com. For more information, call 949-246-6593.

Read This Before You Hire a Contractor

Before hiring a contractor, make sure they are licensed. It is up to you to protect yourself from unscrupulous or unlicensed contractors. A free telephone call to the Contractors State License Board (800-321-2752) or a few clicks on its website (www.cslb.ca.gov) can verify that the license of the contractor you plan to hire is in good standing (with a current, active or unrestricted license) and that he or she is licensed to perform the specific type of contracted work.  Don’t ever give contractors money upfront, make sure you have a contract, and follow the contractor rules adopted by the Housing Mutuals.

So, if you see a sprinkler that is watering the sidewalk or otherwise working inappropriately, calls Resident Services right away at 949-597-4600. Thank you for doing your part to conserve water.

Median Makeover: Improvements are underway for the medians located in the center of Moulton Parkway between Via Campo Verde and Via Iglesia. Beginning Wednesday, August 16, 2017, crews will be working to retrofit the medians with drought-tolerant landscaping and water efficient irrigation systems. During construction, one lane of travel may be closed in either direction to allow the crews to perform their work safely. Barring inclement weather and other unforeseen delays, it is anticipated that construction will be complete this October.?
